Otherwise I think you've got it about right. Just remember superlights are really track machines

David, disagree with these two points - my 1st caterham was a 1.6 supersport with 135bhp and open diff, and in extreme conditions it'd spin an inside wheel. Not a show-stopper, but an lsd would've been nice.

Also, a well-set-up superlight makes for a fabulous fast rosd machine - my R400 was stiffer than ideal for road use but wasn't on std springs or dampers ;)

OK, that last comment may be a bit strong - just trying to say that the track oriented cars are in the superlight family. My experience was that I spec'ed my car for road use but ended up using it mostly on the track.
Caterham - R400
306 - Banger spec
Shogun - global warming spec
Yaris - school run spec
Fiat Panda - cluttering up the garage spec

Hi,

I'm in Cambuslang and happy to let you try Tillets or try to answer any questions you might have. Would suggest 13" would give bigger choice of tyres.

Hello again.... Was away in the last month.... Hope you all well....

Just an update... Met Jason and drove his FANTASTIC Tomato.. It is a pity I didn't fit well in the S3 chassis - may be some dieting is needed... Just noticed the car is sold, hope she still remains in Scotland.

Going to get my first Caterham next weekend from CC south (2003, roadsport, 1.8 K-Rover, 140bhp, SV, standard floor, 5 speed, weather gear, leather seats). Very excited...

As this is my first experience with Caterham and I don't have lots of DIY skills, I would value any advice regarding setup or anything I need to make sure it is "fixed" in the car before I bring her up north. As I said before it is for road use....

Cheers

The Tomato is now in Munich, Germany.

Congratulations and enjoy your first road trip :) I think you have made the perfect choice. Be sure to post a new thread with some pics when you get it.

Carry a small tool kit - sure we could get together a recommended list on here. Be certain the pedals are in the ballpark of where you need them before leaving Caterham. Sure others can add their thoughts :)

It is ...but if it's a simple and obvious 2 min spanner or screwdriver fix, why be delayed an hour or so waiting for them to turn up? ;)

Congratultions! Nice car to introduce yourself to 7 ownership. As for tools, a decent pen-knife or multi-tool thingy is all I take for a road-trip.
